Removing us from your web browser

When you follow links and visit pages on the web, your browser stores that information on your computer.

It includes this information in your browser history and uses it, for example, to change the colour of visited links. This means that you can see what sites and pages have been visited either by yourself, or by other people, using your computer.

To hide your visit you need to:

  • Delete all temporary Internet files from your hard disk
  • Delete all links in your history folder
We have provided guidance for IE6 and Netscape Navigator but please check the help menu from your browser for information about how to do this for the browser you are using. Note that these steps will remove the record of visits to all the websites you or other people you share the computer with have looked at, not just 'hereforadvice'. It will not affect 'favourites' or 'bookmarks'.

Internet Explorer 6

  1. When in Internet Explorer 6, go to the menu bar at the top of the page.
  2. Select Tools, go to the bottom of the dropdown menu, then select Internet Options
  3. Click Delete Files..., check the Delete all offline content box and then click OK
  4. Click on the Clear History button.
  5. Click on Yes to delete your history of visited web sites. Finally, click OK to close the Internet Options button.

Netscape Navigator

  1. When in Netscape Navigator, select Edit then Preferences
  2. Click Clear History
  3. Click Clear Location Bar.
