Herefordshire Community Legal Service Partnership

Herefordshire Community Legal Service Partnership aims to ensure that Herefordshire residents can get good quality legal advice, information and advice services at a time or place when they need them most.

The Partnership does not give legal assistance or advice itself, but works together in a partnership with organisations that do. The Partnership is made up of Herefordshire Council; Legal Services Commission; Voluntary Sector; Community Sector; Private Sector; Public Sector; funders and users.

Herefordshire Community Legal Service Partnership is one of hundreds of partnerships that have been set up across the country by the Community Legal Service (CLS), a government initiative that aims to improve people’s access to legal information and help.

What is legal advice and information?

The focus of the Community Legal Service is on meeting the type of legal needs that most affect people’s lives, in particular help on problems in categories of law such as:

  • Family Issues
  • Debt
  • Welfare Benefits
  • Housing
  • Employment
  • Community Care
  • Immigration
  • Mental Health Law
  • Education
  • Consumer Issues

Information includes leaflets about how you can try to sort your problem out yourself or a directory of local services and solicitors that you might want to use.

Advice is directed at individuals and looks at their particular problems, circumstances and options.

What does the Partnership do?

The Partnership has established a Steering Group to help plan advice and information services in the County and is in the process of updating its Strategic Plan. The Strategic Plan maps the need for advice across the County over the coming years, and services currently being provided. The Strategic Plan identifies areas for the partnership to develop over the next few years.

Recent achievements of the Partnership include the development of a common referral policy so that at whatever point people seek advice, they can be quickly directed to an appropriate source of help without being passed from pillar to post. The Partnership is also currently looking at how well current services match people’s needs for advice.
